Why not to focus on spring stats pt. 532,672

Cole Hamels threw terribly yesterday and if you’re wondering why, he had a quick answer. Via

Hamels said he was working on fastball today, threw fewer secondary pitches, even on counts when he would normally throw them.

I guess there are times when a pitcher just has an awful outing in spring (right Ben Sheets?), but a bad spring start–or even a start in general–can get blown out of proportion.  Glad Hamels (and Ryan Lawrence with the question and quote) got on top of that one.
