Dodgers Trade for Lilly and Dotel, Give Up Too Much for Dotel?

RT @Ken_Rosenthal: Dodgers get Dotel. For Lamb and McDonald. #Pirates #MLB

No word on who Lamb is, but many think it’s Lambo. If that’s the case, that’s a very bad trade for the Dodgers.

Edit: It is indeed for Lambo, this is a TERRIBLE deal.

The amazing thing is this happened minutes earlier:

Dodgers receive Ted Lilly, Ryan Theriot and $2.5 million for Blake DeWitt, Kyle Smit and Brett Wallach.

Smit is an also ran. Wallach is a possible back-end starter, more likely long reliever–very similar to Elisaul Pimentel, but Wallach has a longer sheet of success. Blake DeWitt is the most important part in this trade and it’s obvious Jamey Carroll provides more to the Dodgers on offense and defense (or at least has this year) than Dewitt does, so it’s not a terrible deal.

Only problem is this: for a team that has money issues, it’s absolutely hypocritical to be unable to make trades for the best available players because of a tight budget and then turn around and trade a guy under a rookie contract who hasn’t reached arbitration for a starter making 4 mil through the end of the year and a 2B that’s basically your cheap 2B but going into his third year of arbitration.

The good news is that the Dodgers now have five free agents at the end of the year, four of whom will likely be Type A or B free agents (Manny, Lilly, Podsednik and now Dotel).
